+ Took office on June 1st of year listed
# Took office after the annual fall meeting in September of year listed
* The Association was named the Kentucky Speech Arts Association from 1931-1936; the Kentucky Association of Teachers of Speech from 1936 to circa 1961; the Kentucky Speech Association from circa 1962 to 1968; the Kentucky Association of Communication Arts from 1969-1993; and the Kentucky Communication Association from 1994 to present.
** Dates of the terms of Calhoun and Sattler are conflicting. On the “Biographical material for Rena Calhoun”, it indicates she was president 1940-1941. However, this typed line is struck through and on the left hand margin is hand written, President 1939, 1940 & 1955. According to Chief Archivist, Dr. Glen Taul at Georgetown College, it is not known whether Calhoun did this herself or it was done at some other time by another person. Concurrently, the “Faculty Data Sheet” on file at the Special Collections & Archives of the Hutchins Library at Berea College, indicates that John William Sattler was president of the Kentucky Association of Teachers of Speech, 1938-40. This appears to be in his handwriting, however his birth date of 1904 is struck through and the year 1903 is written in pencil above with the initials J.W. S. beside the writing indicating perhaps other items and dates could be wrong.
*** Dr. Pam Gray is now 2nd vice president. The listing of her name assumes that she will succeed to the presidency by serving the 2006-07 year as 1st vice president and then as president in 2007-08 as the constitution stipulates. Noted here also is the fact that when Gray was nominated in the summer of 2005 as 2nd vice president, she was a professor Kentucky Wesleyan College. By the time of election, Dr. Gray had secured a new position at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. At present, there is no regulation in the by-laws of the association preventing a member who resides outside of Kentucky from holding office. Previous to this, long time member, Jim Reppert, from Southern Arkansas University, had held an “at large” position on the board and James Kauffman and Vijay Krishna, of Indiana University Southeast, had been approved as editors of the Kentucky Journal of Communication, from 2000 to 2003.
